The Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University (OIST) is currently working on developing antibody tests for COVID19, sterilizing and testing face masks for reuse, and producing sanitizing hand gel, which they plan to share with others in Okinawa. All of this is part of efforts to build as much self-sufficiency as possible on the islands of Okinawa as they deal with the impact of COVID19 and the potential future increase of cases.
OIST and the OIST Foundation are also working together on a webinar series on scientific topics relevant to the U.S. and Japan to keep people engaged during this isolating time, and OIST is engaged in critical outreach projects to students in Okinawa and beyond that will have life-altering impacts on their future.
