Private funding is essential to sustain OIST’s rapid growth and worldwide success. In just eight years OIST went from accepting its first students to ranking 1st in Japan and 9th globally for research quality (Nature Index 2019). Graduates have gone on to perform research at the world’s most renowned scientific and academic institutions, and others have become rising stars in industry.

Since its inception, OIST has contributed to globalizing research and graduate education in Japan, has had significant impact on Okinawa by inspiring local youth and stimulating regional economic development, and has enhanced U.S.-Japan scientific cooperation.

The generous support of local, regional, and global donors enables us to advance in our mission. Every gift of every size has impact and we invite you to join us in support of our mission.

Donations can be made via check or credit card.

Credit card donations can be made via the link below.

Donations via check should be made out to the OIST Foundation and mailed to us at:
1 Bridge Street, Suite 64, Irvington, NY 10533.

Gifts over $5,000 are requested to be made via check or bank transfer.

The OIST Foundation suggests that donations be made in the flexible funding category, which allows the Foundation to determine the areas of greatest need. However, donations can be designated for any of the six programmatic areas. The Foundation may retain up to 10% of donations to cover operational costs of the Foundation, although every attempt is made to keep such costs extremely limited. The Foundation retains control of donated funds.

Please contact us if you wish to discuss other types of giving.
