Science and the Future of Diplomacy

On September 9, 2019, OIST Provost Mary Collins joined an elite panel of experts for a panel discussion on Science and the Future of Diplomacy held jointly by the EastWest Institute and National Committee on American Foreign Policy. The discussion featured the perspectives of experts from diverse fields of government, science, and philanthropy as they explored the ways in which rapid technological and scientific advances impact the practice of diplomacy and the role of diplomacy in fostering scientific research.

Followed by opening remarks from Ambassador Kanji Yamanouchi (Consul General of Japan in New York), Susan Elliott (Chairman and CEO, NCAFP), Mary Collins (Provost, Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University), and Daniela Kaisth (Vice President for Development, EastWest Institute) engaged in a candid conversation sharing their professional experiences and thoughts on this critical issue.  The panel was moderated by David Janes (Senior Advisor for Institutional Development, OIST and Managing Director, OIST Foundation ), and saw a lively Q&A period follow the main panel.
