Meet OIST’s Newest Faculty

As we look ahead to the new academic year, the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST) is proud to welcome new faculty members whose research will expand the university’s interdisciplinary scientific community.

Join the OIST Foundation for the next installment of our OIST Science in Focus webinar series on September 17 at 7:30 PM Eastern Time / September 18 at 8:30 AM Japan Time to meet two of OIST’s newest faculty members: Professors Matteo Parisi and Dan Daniel.

Meet the Faculty
Professor Matteo Parisi
Head of the Algebraic Combinatorics and Fundamental Physics Unit

Professor Parisi investigates connections between fundamental questions in quantum field theory and string theory and the mathematical concept of total positivity in algebraic combinatorics.

Professor Dan Daniel
Head of the Droplet and Soft Matter Unit

Professor Daniel explores the rich and often surprising intersection of soft matter, droplet physics, wetting, adhesion, and interfacial phenomena, with a more recent focus on contact electrification.

About the Conversation
During this one-hour virtual event, the conversation will offer an opportunity to learn more about:

  • Their scientific backgrounds and research interests

  • Why OIST’s interdisciplinary environment is uniquely suited to their work

  • What they hope to contribute to OIST and the student experience

Moderated by Ginger Choy, Executive Director of the OIST Foundation, this conversation will provide a welcoming introduction to two of the scientists helping shape OIST’s next chapter.

This webinar is part of the Science in Focus series, highlighting the people and ideas behind OIST.
