On September 10, 2019, OIST Provost Dr. Mary Collins and OIST Foundation Managing Director Mr. David Janes gave a presentation at the Japan America Society of Greater Philadelphia titled, The OIST Experiment: Building a World-Class Scientific Research University. The event was part of the Japan America Society of Greater Philadelphia’s U.S.-Japan Business Meetup presented by AGC Chemicals and hosted by Volpe and Koenig, P.C.
Over 35 people attended the discussion which explored OIST’s founding and mission as well as its future goals. The creation of the OIST Foundation was also discussed. Participants included professors from local universities, patent attorneys who work with Japan, lab designers, tech corporation CEOs, as well as several individuals with Okinawan heritage.
