The OIST Foundation celebrated its first anniversary with a virtual gala on December 2, 2020.
Over 200 people attended to hear a dynamic roundtable on the future of science and technology that included Dr. Andrew Blake, Dr. Kenji Doya, Dr. Peter Gruss, Mr. James Higa, Dr. Sachiko Kuno, Dr. Carla Shatz, and Ms. Amy Webb moderated by Dr. Nancy Snow. The event also included speeches by Minister Kono Taro, Ambassador Shinsuke J. Sugiyama, Ambassador Kanji Yamanouchi, and Consul General Robert Koepcke.
The event featured performances by violinist and OIST Foundation Music Ambassador Eiko Kano accompanied by pianist Karen Hakobyan and the Ryukyu Koten Afuso Ryo Choichi Kai USA. The gala also highlighted the Foundation’s impact over the past year and a dynamic VIP reception was held after the event in which around 75 people engaged.
